MRI Of Right Hip Shows Absence Of Anterior Superior Labrum. Explain
hELLO MY NAME IS LORI AND ON THIS PAST SUNDAY I OBTAINED AN MRI OF MY RIGHT HIP AFTER OVER 4 MONTHS OF INTENSE PAIN. I RECEIVED THE RESULTS FROM MY RADIOLOGIST TODAY AND THE IMPRESSION SAYS, ABSENCE OF ANTERIOR SUPERIOR LABRUM. WHAT EXACTLY DOES THIS MEAN?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The hip joint is formed between ball of femur and socket of hip bone oe plevic bone. The two surfaces are kept in position by ligaments and cartilages around the hip joint. Labrum is a structure which provides stability to the joint by increasing the depth of the socket and hence the ball fits well in the socket formed by the pelvic bone. Absence of anterior labrum can be a congenital problem and it can make the joint unstable and easy dislocation.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
