Lump on left side jaw near throat. What could this lump be?

hi my name is andrew im a teenager and i have a painless marble sized lump on the left side under my jaw area by my throat and it s been there for almost 6 months now ever since easter im really concerned about what it could be but i don t have any health insurance so i can t go see a doctor at the moment :/ any idea? please help thank you

There any many causes of swelling in the neck. However, the most common ones are the cervical lymph nodes. The lymph nodes enlarge when there is a throat infection, dental caries etc. Sometimes the lymph nodes persist even after the infections clears. If the diameter of the swelling is roughly less than 1 cm and if it is soft in consistency , you need not worry. Just ignore it.

However, if there are multiple swellings in the neck, firm -hard in consistency , with more than 1 cm in diameter, progressive increase in size of the lymph nodes, with fever, pain in the lymph node, you need to visit the doctor immediately.

I'm assuming that you are otherwise healthy except for this small lymph node on your neck.
