Lump Between Breasts, Foul Smelling Pus. What Is It?

Hi, I have a lump almost between my breast almost between the breasts. The lump is at the top of the left breast but is almost in the centre between the breasts. Last night I squeezed it and a lot of smelly pus came out, though there was very little blood. I sqeezed it so much now that I'm not sure if the lump has receded or I just have bruised the area. I'm 50, but in good health. Not on any medication of any kind, never have been, apart from the occasional prescribed treatment for minor aliments.

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

The lump as described by you was external and not within the breasts, which could mean that this was most probably a superficial condition (eg. folliculitis, cyst, etc.); and should not be of much concern.

But, this could get re-infected, especially as you have squeezed and irritated it. Please keep the area clean and dry, apply a sterile pad if available, and report to a doctor who depending on its appearance might just apply a sterile dressing with a topical antibiotic or decide to give you a prophylactic course of antibiotics.

In the meantime, please do not irritate the region, keep it clean and apply a sterile pad which should be easily available at all medical stores.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581 . I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
