Lump behind knee, skin numb and red, pain on pushing, overweight. How to get relief?

Hi. Yesterday I noticed a lump behind my knee . The skin is numb and red. The lump is firm and causes pain when I push on it. I am 53 year old female and overweight . Four months ago I began a water aerobic program for 90 minutes 3 times a week. I have not noticed pain in that leg or knee when exercising. How concerned should I be? Should I call my orthopedic surgeon? (I had tibia transfer many years ago.)

Without a clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of the lump. Possibilities that may need to be considered include enlarged bursa, baker's cysts, growths from underlying connective tissue etc. Numbness of skin is worrisome.
I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopedician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. You may get the X-ray of the area affected and FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) of lump under his/her guidance.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
