Low Grade Fever, Sore Throat, Headache, Swollen Glands, Muscle Fatigue. Got Bitten By Black Fly. Any Ideas?

I was bitten by some sort of a large black fly numerous times two days ago. I hadn't given it a second thought until I (as someone who rarely is ill) started having much irritation around these bites accompanied by a low grade fever (about 100-101 F), very sore throat, headaches, swollen glands in neck and general muscle soreness/fatigue. I figure it most likely coincidental, but is there anything that may relate the symptoms to the bites?

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

Where exactly did this fly bite you? Which country do you reside in and which part of the country?

Your symptoms match that of an upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) and could most probably be just a coincidental occurrence, in addition to the fly bite. Although you did experience some irritation around the bites (which is common and normal), it is quite unlikely that this fly bite has caused these symptoms.

You should get these bites inspected by a local doctor either way. Doctor's in the region will be acquainted with the type of infestation and insect bites that can cause these symptoms, so it is best to always rule out the fly bite to be the cause.

If this is a harmless fly, then you have a URTI as mentioned above, which can be treated with the help of antibiotics, pain management medication and an antiseptic solution for your oral cavity.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
