HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Chronic cough can have different causes. The most common causes are upper airway syndrome, GERD, asthma, non asthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis and possibly side effect of medications.

The medication most commonly asssociated with cough are ACE inhibitors. These are used in heart failure and high blood pressure. You may want to check to see if she is on any of these medications.

In terms of the other conditions mentioned, the most common out of these is upper airway syndrome which really refers to the dripping of mucus to the back of the throat. Some persons, up to 20% of them, may not actually be aware of the drip.

Because it is the most common reason for the chronic cough you may consider treating for this and see if it helps. This would involve the use of a topical nasal spray and an antihistamine. She may also want to consider allergy testing to determine if there are any specific allergens that are promoting the cough.

I hope this helps
