Liver Ultrasound Done. What Does This Findings Mean?

I just had a liver altasound it shows... Liver is borderline enlarged measuring up to 19 cm in length. There is diffused increase echo geniality in the liver parenchyma with focal areas of decreased echogenicity. Please note that increased echogenicity in the liver parenchyma limits evaluation for focal lesions. The hypoechoic areas most likely represent fatty sparing which were demonstrated on MRI dated 3/20/2010. Status post cholecystectomy , common bile duct measures 4 mm. Pancreas is unremarkable. Right kidney measures 11 cm in length. Normal cortical echogenicity is present. There is no evidence of hydroephrosis. There is no evidence off free fluid in the upper abdomen. Please help explain this to me in English! Help!!!

Hello,
Thanks for writing in.

Your ultrasound report details are as follows:
Liver: Enlarged in size and shows fatty changes throughout with some areas probably being spared (as compared with MRI done in 2010). This is a benign (not serious) finding in many people.

Gall bladder: post cholecystectomy (surgery done to remove it)

Pancreas: Normal

Kidneys: Normal

No free fluid in upper abdomen: Normal.

Only finding: Liver shows fatty changes and may be correlated with blood tests for liver function.

Hope this helps.
