Leg Injury. Swollen Ankle, Painful. Swelling Reduces When Elevating Leg. What Is Wrong?

I got a kick on my inside lower leg, not directly to the bone. I was just fine for about 48 hours it just felt bruised. Now the area and ankle are swollen and when I elevate my leg the swelling reduces a bit. There is severe stinging like pain as soon as I stand which stops after about 2-3 minutes. No pain when walking but the swelling does hinder correct walking technique. I haven t tried running yet. Any suggestions on what is wrong?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for posting your query.

From description it seems soft tissue injury over lower leg.

I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance .

In the interim, apply ice packs to the affected area,anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.

Wishing you good health
Regards.
