Leaking Heart Valve, Advised Open Heart Surgery. Had Surgery For Perforated Diverticulitis Recently, Has Colonoscopy Bag. Is Heart Surgery Advisable At This Stage?
My 84 yeard old grandmother was just told she needs open heart surgery for a leaking heart valve . Six months ago she just underwent an emergency surgery due to perforated diverticultiis. She still has a colonsopy bag and says it feels like 10 years was removed from her life after this surgury. Can she really endure open heart surgery? The doctor for the stoma has already told her a month ago that she still wasn t ready to have this reversed that she was too weak. Now open heart surgery. What do i say?
It is a question of risk versus benefits... In a heart patient, surgery on the heart itself is far less risky than surgery elsewhere... She has tolerated major surgery recently and she stands a good chance here too... What is the alternative? - The treating doctor alone can suggest further based on his assessment of the situation.
Take care Wishing speedy recovery God bless Good luck
