Hi and welcome to HCM!
Thanks for posting your query here.
Age above 40 years, recent irregular periods
with heavy bleeding suggests some pathology in uterus
. It could be because of fibroids or some changes in endometrium.
Fibroids are a mass of fibrous tissue which are attached to the uterine wall. Because of the increased surface area it results in heavy bleeding. Depending on the size and site where they are the treatment varies. Small fibroids can be treated with hormones. If the size of fibroids is more the doctor can opt for surgery.
Changes in endometrium also causes irregular and heavy bleeding. An increase in the thickness of the endometrial tissue will give the clue. The most common pathology could be endometrial cancer
. Dont get worried. Please wait for the confirmative report from the biopsy
. Sometimes hormonal
changes can cause endometrial changes. This can be treated by D&C and after with hormonal tablets.
Please get the biopsy report and you can ask for the thickness of the endometrium it guides you to the diagnosis.
Hope this helps to you.
