You have mentioned that the injury on the shin has left an abration and bruising,
You definetly need to visit your doctor.
The wound care that you are doing is fine but oral antibiotics and pain killers also need to be administered.
There is a good chance of infection as the wound size is large and there is abration of the skin.
Besides medication, examination of wound is important as there may be dead skin in the wound which requires debridement or removal of dead skin.
Bruising that you are seeing in the wound is due to bleeding into the tissue.

So, without wasting much time, do see your doctor.

Thanks for your query.
Yes he should get a check up from an orthopedic surgeon.
Is he having problem in moving the leg or walking around ?
There might be crack in bone , so don't neglect . X ray might be needed.
For pain use analgesic tablets like aceclofenac+paracetamol combination.
Serratiopeptidase tablets will reduce the swelling.
keep the wound clean and don't let it get infected... providone Iodine lotion will help.
