Knee injury. Doctor?

I was playing softball about a week ago. I was stealing third and the catcher threw the ball and it hit the side of my knee . I know have a bruise and a little swelling with another bruise on top of my knee cap that I m thinking also came with this injury . It hurts to run a lot on it. I also run hurdles in track and it hurts to do those also. I was wondering what is wrong and if I should go to the doctor.

You have made a correct assessment of your injury. Based on what you have said it sounds like a soft tissue injury rather than a significant injury to the knee joint itself. Your symptoms should quickly improve over the next two weeks. In the meantime you may want to take an anti-inflammatory if your pain is particularly bothersome. If your symptoms persist beyond this then I would seek further medical advice.
