Knee MRI Showed Patchy Foci Of Increased Signal In Marrow Of Patella. Suggested Complete Knee Replacement

Hi, I just t had a MR on my knee and the doctor told me my knee was wore out and that I needed a complete knee replacement , I have a soft tissue mass inside my femur bone. I have a copy of my MRI Preliminary Report and I don't understand what all of this means, like what is patchy foci of increased signal in the marrow of the patella? It also says there is lobulated focus of increased T2 signal in the distal femur measuring approximately 3.5 cm (SI) x 2.3 cm (AP) x 1.9 cm (TR) This has punctate foci of low signal within it and curvilinear areas of intermediate to low signal. This lesions comes in close proximity to the cortex without evidence for cortical destruction or associated soft tissue mass. Findings are statistically related to chondroid lesion. Thanks Tammy

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The patchy foci of increased signal in marrow of patella is suggestive of an inflammation in the area. This lesion can be treated symptomatically for some time but if the symptoms are severe then surgical treatment should be considered.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
