Itchy Rashes All Over Body, Swollen Hands, Strep Test Negative. What Is Going On?

My daughter is 14. she came home from school yesterday with an itchy rash that had suddenly started with in the hour she arrived at school. It would come and go within a half hour or so. It was on her legs, arms and hands. Her hands were even swelled up. I took her to her Dr right away. Her Doctor said it could be strep or mono. They did a strep test (Negative). They drew blood for mono and sent us home to wait for the results. I finally get the results today which are also (Negative). Her rash still hasnt gone away and it s been more than 30 hrs later...What could it be and what should i do for her?? ................**Heather** My e-mail is YYYY@YYYY

Hello and welcome to HCM

An itchy rash could be due to infection or allergy.
Since, your doctor has ruled out the possibility of infection, allergy for different agents like environmental allergens, drugs, dander, food item, etc has to be sought out.
You will need to consult your physician, a dermatologist preferably to clinically examine the child.
If the rash appears to be an allergic one, appropriate test needs to be done.
Allergy with various agents is tested on skin and the offending agent is found out and thus the management is planned.
For symptomatic relief from itching, lactocalamine lotion can be applied.

Thanks and take care
