Itchy Irritated Throat And Nose. Have Swelling. Treatment?

I am an 18-year-old girl. The past two nights, I have woken up with an extremely itchy and irritated throat. My nose and throat were itchy as well. I can sort of scratch the back of my throat with my tongue. This morning, my throat/neck feels sort of swollen or constricted. What is this? What can I do to make this go away?

Hello,
thanks for using health care magic.

Itchy throat is a common symptom for a variety of upper
respiratory tract affections. Such affections include:
Infections, allergies, gastro-esophageal reflux disease etc.

- Infections are the most common causes of itchy throat which
can be caused by bacterial or viral or fungal infections. Bacterial
infections (strep throat, etc.) and viral infections (common cold, flu, etc.)
can occur in healthy individuals, where as fungal infections usually occur
in conditions of immunosuppression like AIDS, diabetes mellitus, etc.
Bacterial infections require antibiotics unlike viral infections
Allergies could be due to ingested food or inhaled particles and it
persists longer and occurs more frequently and accompanied by
other symptoms of allergy like runny nostrils and sneezing. Antihis-
taminics such as chlorpheniramine are widely used
Other causes of itchy throat include excessive strain on larynx during
a singing or shouting encounter and gastroesophageal reflux disease
in which there is a reflux of acid up to the throat.

Hope this answers your query. If you have more query do not hesitate to
ask.
Best regards
