Itchy Face, Bumps, Swelling. Tea Tree Oil Used. Advise?
I just cleaned my face the other night with pure tea tree oil in hopes it would clear up the little amount of acne I had. The next day, I woke up with a VERY itch face, and so many bumps on my face that I can't find a clear spot! It itches, my skin feels very tight...the tea tree oil I used was a leftover bottle from when I tried to heal a rash that I later found out was a new allergy to acrylic nails. This is day 2 with my itchy, bumpy face and I now look swollen all over!

Hi thanks for writing here.You have developed allergy to tea tree oil.This is known as contact dermatitis.Avoid sun exposure.Do not apply soap or anything on face.Wash with water only.Start applying a steroid cream like desowen lotion to whole face.You need to take oral anti histaminics and oral steroids like tab.omnacortil 5 mg twice daily for 3 days and once daily for next 4 days.This much dose does not cause any side effect.Stop applying lotion once your rash subsides otherwise acne will flare up.I hope this will help you.Take care.

You had few acne in your face for which you applied tea tree oil, after which you developed so many problems. The tree oil is known for its antiseptic, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic qualities. But at the same time for some people it has produced allergic contact dermatitis as an allergic reaction producing symptoms like what you have.
Treatment:
Oral or injection antibiotic according to the severity of infection and pain killers.
An ointment containing cortisone + antibiotic can be tried.
For itching - Anti Histaminic drugs.
Avoid soap and allergic food
A course of anti worm and anti amoebic may be useful.
