Itch In Vagina, Burns While Urinating. Is This A Matter Of Concern?

I am 17 and have recently started having sex with my long term boyfriend. We aren't going to see each other for sometime, so we have had sex a lot more. 4 days after he left, I notice an itch in my vagina, which I tried to itch but I may have scratched something. Every now and then it still itches and sometimes when I pee it burns. i have noticed no abmormal smell or discharge however. is this a scratch or something more serious?

Hello.

It sounds like you could be suffering from an infection of the urinary tract which has symptoms like: frequent urination, burning sensation during or after urination, itching around genitalia, less amount of urine passed, vaginal discharge, etc.

Not all symptoms need to be present in the same person. The next step would be to visit a doctor and get your urine analysed. Once an infection is confirmed the use of antibiotics, pain killers and a urine alkalizer will help in rapidly and effectively treating your infection.

If a urinary tract infection is ruled out, a screening for all sexually transmitted infections will be required. In the meantime, please keep yourself well hydrated.

Hope this helps.

Take care.

Emergency Medicine Specialist Dr. Dr. R.A. SINGH's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.

After reading your post, it seems that your symptoms might be due to some abrasion locally due to excess sexual activity, as described by you.

It will gradually get resolved.

You can take an antihistaminic like cetrizine 10 mg once a day for itching.
Local application of topical antibiotic and steroid cream will also be helpful.

Maintain hygiene of the part.

If the problem persists or you develop new symptoms like discharge or foul smell, get yourself examined clinically.

I hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks.
