my grandson is having severe stomach pain, the pain is any time before or after he eats anything, his pain goes all over his tummy, then later he ll be normal, we went to the doctor yesterday he put him on zantac and elixir. I am waiting for the P. A. to call me. What I want to know is how along does it take for the medicine to start working, he wants to go to school, he loves school he gets good grades, we asked him if there was anyone bothering him, he said no, that he has lots of friends. I m driving myself crazy I don t know what else to do.

Hi

Welcome to the HCM

I understand your concerns. Don't worry as most of the conditions responsible for such symptoms are treatable. The most likely causes in this age group can be:
1. Gastritis for which Zantac works well. So you may continue it.
2. Worm infestations or bacterial infections. I would recommend you to start him on Ofloxacin-ornidazole combination drug.
3. Give him plenty of fluids to keep him well hydrated.
4. If he doesn't improve, go for an ultrasound abdomen to rule out renal stones, cysts, pancreatitis or appendix infection as cause of his illness.

Hopefully this will help you out. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.

Take care
