Is Valve Repair Recommended For Severe Mitral Valve Regurgitation?

Hi Doctor, I have a severe mitral valve regurgitation and I hear in the US that valve repair is more common than it is in Canada. With valve repair, I hear that it will result in less complications or infection and a quicker recovery. What is your recommendation? Thanks, Riad Chadi 67 Cheswick Circle London Ontario Canada

Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM! Regarding your concern I would like to explain that your statements are true. Heart valve repair when feasible produces stable and physiological results, imposing less probable complications, like valve thrombosis, adverse ventricular remodeling, and infection. avoiding long-term anticoagulants. But first of all it should be ascertained whether the valve is feasible for repair.Severely calcified or rheumatic valves are hardly possible to repair even in very specialized centers.
Hope to have been helpful to you. Greetings! Dr. Iliri
