Is Valium Appropriate Medicine Given For Shivers After Being Tested Positive For Benzodiazepines?

Yes Dr., I tested positve for Benzodiapines. The 21st of December and gave up drinking for good, but was going thru serious withdrawls and I admitted myself to Veterans ER. My shakes were so bad they gave me 20mg of Valium via IV. A couple days later, they gave me a small dose of Lorazipan. Monday January 6th, I tested positve for Benzo s thru a unire test. Is it possible for it to still be in my system??? They re going to kick me out of the VA Rehab because this.

It seems that you have two questions here that I think I can help you with:

The first: Yes, giving a benzo to treat "shivers" is an appropriate treatment. Heavy drinkers, who quit, often have serious withdraw symptoms that can progress to life threatening seizures. As such, these shakes/shivers are treated with a benzo. This is common and actually the standard of care.

The Second: If you are in danger of losing the VA Rehab spot, they need to be made aware of your recent hospital admission. It is best to contact the hospital where you were initially treated, and get a copy of the records. This will likely help the VA rehab know that you are not a drug abuser and likely very serious about not drinking.

I hope this helps
