Is Thyroid Scan That Shows 4 Nodules To Be Biopsied An Urgency ?

I had a thyroid scan done and back came the result I need four nodules biopsied. However, my endocrinologist said it is "not urgent." I have multinodular goiter and hyperthyroidism but I have had both for 23 years and also had needle aspiration done 23 years ago and it came back normal.

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello.
Good day.
What type of thyroid scan did you have ? A nuclear scan or an ultrasound scan?

If you had an ultrasound.,
The need of biopsy or FNA is based on the size of the nodules and ultrasound characters. As your endocrinologist said no urgent action is required means that there are no suspicious findings in ultrasound and probably the nodules are smaller.

If you had a nuclear scan and if that mentioned cold nodules, that need to be biopsied

Binu
