Is There Anything To Worry About Irregular Periods And Lower Abdominal Pain Of A 13 Year Old?

My 13 year old daughter has not had a consistent menstrual cycle. She has been having her period for well over a year now. In the last 2 months she has had intense lower abdominal pain/nausea following her last day of her period. Is this something to be concerned about?

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
I really appreciate your concern for your daughter, this is nothing to worry looking to age of your daughter, the regular cycle yet be taken place, the hormone secretion is not fully functioning, but this will be okay soon, this is very common phenomenon if the age of girl is below 14, hope this information helps you, have nice day.

OBGYN Dr. Sree Gouri SR's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
During early months of menarche some amount of disturbances can be seen in menstrual cycle.
It will take some time for regularization of hormonal levels and menstrual cycles.
This period can differ from person to person.
Dysmenorrhea can occur due to many causes.
Usually primary dysmenorrhea can be seen in adolescents.
This occurs due to onset of ovulatory menstrual cycles without pelvic pathology.
This can be accompanied by nausea etc symptoms.
She can take symptomatic treatment with antispasmodic drugs and antiemetics with your doctor's advice.
If pain persists even after taking medicines, better to go for hormonal pills for few months after discussing with your doctor.
This can lead to anovulation and can help in decreasing the pain.
Take care.
