Is There Any Way To Control Drowsiness Caused By Intake Of Delantin For Seizure Control?

I take 300 mgs of Dilantin daily for seizure control and have done so for close to three years. Still, I find myself quite drowsy and pretty much ready to take a nap almost any time of the day. People now constantly tell me how tired I look, even at times when I don't feel particularly tired.

The drug works and I've been on many before that did not, so I'm not itching to start going through that hell again, but I was wondering if there is a way to combat the drowsiness side effect. Dosage reduction isn't really an option right now as I had a breakthrough seizure for the first time in more than two years. The doc upped my Dilantin, but had to bring it back down after it caused nearly a 100 percent increase in saturation in my blood. I was almost narcoleptic during that point. I'm back down to my old levels and the seizures are controlled, but I'm still very drowsy.

Anything I can do to fight that side effect?

hi
welcome to our site

read your query
that is a very significant question
and i appreciate your problem

i will try my best to answer your query

just hang in there
the best i know is that the only possible
way to reduce drowsiness is decrease dose
(that should be done by your dr)
or change the medicine
(and you say most others have not managed to control)

however there are many new medicines
i cannot say which you could try
since i dont know
exactly what type of epilepsy you have
whats the cause
and what medicines you have tried so far

i hope you have had an mri
if not done, get one

i hope this helps you
inform the reports mentioned above (if any)
so i can be of help further
best of luck

(please do understand that some problem remains as
online texting cuts down history and examination
thereby reducing the effect and efficiency
and increases reliance on tests)
