Is There Any Substitute For Metformin And Actos Which Is Not Hepatotoxic?

hi. I am diagnosed w/ type 2 diabetes last 2 years ago but my last Hga1c is 10.1 on Actos 15 mg po qday. I am 165 lbs ,5 5 NKDA but w/ history of Hepatitis B.I am trying basically to self medicate myself because I don t have health insurance and trying to avoid any medication that will affect my liver adversely. I do exercise once a week and trying to restrict my diet. .I started w/ metformin but it was giving me too much diarrhea and Actos seems to be making me less sleepy also. Is there any medication that maybe not hepatotoxic that can lower may A1C.Other wise I feel OK. Thank you! from Out of Job RN

hello n welcome. the haba1c is very high. u need to be on high dose antidiabetics for atleast six months, if it doesn't improve u should consider insulin as a viable next choice. don't worry about the hepatotoxicity as pros n cons weigh more towards the diabetes itself. I advise tab metformin 1000 mg bd, tab actos 15 mg bd , tab glimepiride 4 mg once daily after breakfast. let me know abt ur progress then thanx
