Hello,
thanks for using health care magic

I read your query and i must say its really touching.

The only thing available which could help her is taking a post exposure prophylaxis which has to be started within 72 hours after the first exposure.

Post exposure prophylaxis are antiretroviral drugs that reduce the replication of the virus thus preventing the virus from becoming resident in the system.

If your sister is still within the 72 hours after her first intercourse with him, she could go for post exposure prophylaxis else she will have to wait for three months to do the HIV test and then re do after six months if the test appeared negative at 3 months.

However, if the man was already on antiretroviral and if he was compliant to his treatment, the risk of transmission is reduced.

Hope this helps
Best regards

You should start post exposure prophylaxis and after than anti-retro-viral therapy. The earliest test for confirmation of HIV is HIV DNA PCR followed by P24 antigen. this will give you result in a month duration. but you have to check the CD4 count status of her husband. according to CD4 status line of treatment varies. also if he is taking any ART than the one step above ART you have to take for your sister. thnx
