Is There An Alternative For Cipro And Flagyl For Colitis As They Are Causing Nausea, Tiredness?

I am taking Cipro and Flagyl for colitis, a ten day dose. I have been so nauseous and tired I no longer want to continue taking them. I have taken the two doses today which today is the 5th day, is there an alternative to taking these and what is the problem if I was to stop taking them?

Hi, thanks for your question.

There are alternatives to flagyl and ciprofloxacin. Except contraindicated, the drug of choice for colitis is bactrim ( trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole). Other treatment options are intravenous ampicillin, chloramphenicol, and ceftrixaone.

However, i would suggest you visit your doctor who knows your medical history and review these symptoms before stopping a drug or starting another one so you do not take drug that would have adverse effects on you.

I hope i have answered your question.

Best wishes.
