Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is there a way to lower my heart rate when cycling? I m using a heart rate monitor and I always seem to ride at threshold or over the entire time. Usually 180-190 even on flats. After 20-40 minutes I m done..out of energy. Even running 100 meters shoots me up from 90 to 170 from the start and I m out of oxygen. Thanks! I am overweight..215 and female. I had to quit using a trainer because I d have to have keep a cadence of 65 just to stay at aerobic and started walking.
The only natural way to reduce your heart rate is to reduce your body weight and be fit. The heart rate adapts to your physical activity and your heart's potential. Reducing it with a drug or any way besides the natural one would result in reduced heart capacity.
So the only way is to work harder until your body gets accustomed to the increased load. Before doing so you should consult your doctor to make sure that this kind of workload is appropriate for you.
I hope you find my comments helpful! You can contact me again if you'd like any clarification or further information.
Kind regards!
