Is There A Possibility Of Going Into Premature Labour?

HI I am Charlane with GA 26 weeks 2 days and estimated fetal maturity at 27 weeks and 3 days. My ultrasound of today revealed posterior placenta, unseparated and free from cervical os. Does this mean that it is a high possibility for me to go into prenature labour ?

Helo and welcome Charlane,

The report is normal. The placenta is the part that supplies nutrients to the baby. It may be located anywhere. Usually it is attached to the upper part of the uterus. It may be anterior [ in the front side], posterior [ in the back wall of uterus], in the fundus [ top of uterus] or low lying near the cervix.

You have not mentioned if it is low lying or not. As long as it is not low lying there is no risk of preterm labor or bleeding. So check the report.

Unseperated means that it is nicely attached to the uterus which is a very good sign and free from cervix indicates that it is not lying on the cervix [ if on cervix called placenta previa, that may bleed severely].

So your report is fine.
Have a safe pregnancy and delivery.
Take care.

Hope this satisfies your query.
