Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is The Sleepiness Caused Due To Congestive Heart Failure?
My husband has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure just this month. But for the last 3-4 years, he has slept so much more than normal. Now he sleeps all the time. He gets up to eat and go to the bathroom and to talk to me for about 5 minutes. If he is awake, he asks if he can take a nap before taking a shower, having dinner, anything. Is the sleeping due to the congestive heart failure? Does this indicate that his condition is far advanced?
Hi! I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
Well, in congestive heart failure heart doesn't pomp enough blood in circulation so the brain and other parts of the body take less blood than usually and this may be the reason he is tired, powerless, feels weak and he need sleep to rest.
I will suggest to test the thyroid function because hypothyroidism can cause this. If I were you treating doctor I will first rule out hypothyroidism.
Hope I was able to help you. Take care. Dr.Rovena
