Is The Blood Pressure And Pulse Rate Normal?

Hi, my 11 year old son has been getting very red in the face and arms while at daycare during activities. His blood pressure (using a home wrist cuff) has been 150/82 and a pulse rate of 120. He is on medications for ADD and bipolar. Is this normal for him?

Hello,

No, his vital parameters are not normal. First of all, Blood pressure should be checked by a doctor with hospital instruments for confirmation of high blood pressure. If it is still high, ask his treating doctor whether it is not due to his ongoing medicines and if something else, evaluation and treatment for the same should be started.

Blood pressure at the age of 11, 150/82 is quite high. It should be less than or equal to 120/80 +/- 5 mm Hg. His sympathetic tone seems to be high. As his face and arms become red during activities, there is likely some problem related to the circulatory system (heart, periphrasis circulatory system or kidney-adrenal gland). The pulse rate also should not be more than 100.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Chintan Solanki
