Is Taking Ipill A Safe Option To Avoid Pregnancy After Having Unsafe Sex?

I am a 20 years old female. I am engaged to be married. My fiancé and I had unprotected sex on 15/11/15. My last period was on 18/10/15. I took an ipill within an hour of unprotected sex. Are there any chances I might get pregnant? I know the best way to avoid pregnancy is to avoid unprotected sex. we will be careful in the future, but as of now are there any measures I can take to avoid getting pregnant. what are the signs I should look out for?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
i pill is an emergency contraceptive pill. It is taken to avoid unwanted pregnancy due to unprotected intercourse.
What you have done is right as you have taken the pill by 1 hour of the act, as the pill needs to be taken within 72 hours of the act, but earlier it is taken, it would be better.
The pill would prevent pregnancy by causing breakthrough bleeding in the form of periods within 3 weeks from the day of its intake. Most of the times, bleeding happens within a week of its intake.
However, protection offered by it is not 100%. It has a failure rate of about 10%.
Just relax and wait for the periods to happen. In case it doesn't happen by 3 weeks, you need to seek medical attention immediately.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
