Hello,
Thank you for asking the question.
Actalin should not be taken along with Elthroxin pills. Actalin contains L- Tyrosine and taking it along with Elthroxin can lead to increased blood levels of Thyroid hormone which is potentially dangerous and can be fatal. Moreover Actalin also potentiates the stimulatory effects of thyroid hormone which is also dangerous.
High thyroid hormone level in blood can lead to palpitations, sweating , tremor ,cardiac arrhythmia and even lead to cardiac arrest.
If you are experiencing symptoms like weight gain, tiredness, thinning of hair while on Elthroxin it suggest that you have low thyroid hormone levels in your body(Hypothyroid) and might require a dose adjusement. If it has been long tome since you have the hormone level checked and dose of elthroxin adjusted that must be the most probable reason for your symptoms. You need to get blood work done to check the levels of thyroid stimulating hormone, free t3 and t4 .I suggest you consult with your doctor to get a physical and blood work done so that he/she can decide on the dose of elthroxin needed.
Taking Actalin along with Elthroxin can lead to rapid and uncontrollable increase in thyroid hormone levels. So the two medications should never be taken together.
Hope I have answered your question. Please follow up with me after you get the blood work done and if you have any more concerns and questions.
