Hi Vicky. I think you refer to a condition called chondromyxoid fibroma. This will be suspected based on your symptoms, your CT scan and your MRI scan. It is most common under the age of 30 years. The symptoms are usually longstanding pain in the knee with possible swelling and restricted range of movement. It is a tumour of the bone. However, it is a BENIGN tumour, not a malignant tumour. Benign tumours have very little chance of causing sustained growth and invasion or spread to distant organs. There is very little chance of it becoming a cancerous tumour, if this is the diagnosis. However, a definitive diagnosis is required. The CT and MRI scans can provide a suspected diagnosis, however, what will give you a certain diagnosis is a sample of tissue from the growth, or a biopsy. This is a relatively minor procedure. The results should be available within around 10 days or 2 weeks following the procedure. If the diagnosis is as suspected, you should be reassured that it is a benign condition, but it will need to be checked on a regular basis.
