Is Surgery Necessary To Remove Benign Thyroid Adenoma?

I have a benign thyroid adenoma since 2008. I had two FNA s and ultrasounds and was told it is benign. However it tripled in size due to stress, loss of employment, mother s death, etc. I am scheduled to have surgery in July but I am skeptical since I have not received any treatment for the goiter at that Hospital. I did research on my own, as a former teacher I like to be well informed. I tried Holtorf Medical Group for a couple of months but had mixed results. I changed my nutrition to gluten-free, lactose-free which has helped my digestive issues. I have no pain or discomfort just a large lump on the right side of my thyroid

Hello,
I carefully read your report. I would inform you about thyroid nodules and when it is recommended to be surgically removed.
If a nodule is cold in scintiscan and is over 1 cm in ultrasound is recommended to do FNA in order to rule out a malignant pathology.
Anyway the sensitivity of FNA is not 100 percent that is way when the nodule grows rapidly and has suspicious elements in ultrasound, surgery is recommended.
About the treatment of the goiter, if the hormonal level (TSH,FT4 and FT3) is within the normal range, there is no treatment to reduce the goiter.
Until now there is no diet approved to be effective in reducing the nodules.
Hope the information is helpful and I am opened for further questions.
Kind regards,
Dr,M.Guni
