Is Surgery Necessary For Inguinal Hernia In Babies?

My son is 15 months and he has Inguinal hernia since he was 9 months. We have bring him to doctor and scheduled him to have surgery in next few days, soon after he recovered from flu and cough. I heard about Inguinal belt support for hernia from my relative and do some googling. My question is, do the surgery is necessary, I means, he is just a baby. And do this support belt is really help? Thank you. Brando. Greetings from Indonesia
