Is Sudden Elbow Pain The Outcome Of A Broken Elbow?

I was in a car accident about 18 months ago. My elbow shattered through the windshield and I separated and break it in two places. After surgery, I had rods and screws placed in. I get sudden and killing pain between my elbow joint randomly that hurts more than the actual break itself. I find myself not being able to move my arm at all and I rest it on a pillow for an hour or so and the pain finally gives out. This happens on several occasions. Is it just the outcome of a broken elbow?

Hello,
Thanks for your query.
It is most likely due to sprain. It is a stretch or tear injury to a ligament. One or more ligaments can be injured during a sprain. This might occur when the elbow is hyperextended or simply jammed, such as in a "stiffarm" collision. The severity of the injury will depend on the extent of injury to a single ligament and the number of ligaments involved. Treatment involves rest, ice, immobilization, compression, and anti-inflammation medications.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
