Is Strep Throat With White Lumps On The Tonsils Curable?

Hi, I have a very sore throat which has persisted for about 3–4 days. I had a rapid strep test done which came back negative. The PA who took the test said it is likely either a virus or a different strain of strep, which cannot be cured by antibiotics. I was not prescribed anything, just advised to take ibuprofen as needed, drink hot tea, etc. I am a bit concerned as my throat looks like many of the strep photos online; I have the whiteish/grayish spots/lumps on my tonsils. These were present when the PA assessed me, and she said they were possible to have even with the virus. Just curious what you think!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain whitish/greyish bumps on the tonsils seems to be due to Follicular Tonsillitis and it is most commonly due to bacterial infection and not viral..
There can be a viral infection with a superseded bacterial infection.
I would suggest you to take a course of antibiotics as if it due to any other strain of bacteria too it will be treated with antibiotics..
I would suggest you to start taking a course of antibiotics like Azithromycin or Augmentin..
Take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Suck throat lozenges and chew Vitamin C pellets..
You can do warm saline gargles 3 to 4 times a day and do steam inhalations..
Sip on plenty of warm water throughout the day..
Take a soft diet and avoid spicy and chilled foods..
In case of no improvement in a week consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
