Is Stomach Upset Due To Side Effects Of Flagyl And Levaquin?
My doctor put me on Flagyl and Levaquin for a bout with diverticulitis. It has helped greatly but I am having a great deal of trouble with feeling sick to my stomach and very exhausted, also it is difficult for me to sleep. is this side effect of taking these medications.
Hi & Welcome to HCM. Stomach upset can be caused by both the prescribed medications. The most common side effects of Flagyl (Metronidazole) include nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhea, metallic taste, dizziness and headache. Whereas Levaquin (Levofloxacin) can also cause nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, joint/tendon problems (such as tendonitis, bursitis), skin allergy on exposure to sun light, etc. These side effects are self limiting and will subside once you complete the course of the antibiotics. However, consult your treating physician for the side effects like sleep disturbances as you may need some sedative for the symptomatic relief. Hope this will help.
