Is Stiffness In My Knee Caused Due To LCL Tear?

I slipped on ice and landed on my left knee. I am 5' 9" just under 200 pounds. I saw a doc who took x-rays about a week ago and said there was no fracture. After a week the swelling has reduced but the pain has not. I can not walk up stairs or down stairs, my knee is stiff and feels like it will give out. The pain is very bad. I have not had any surgeries on my knees or legs. Do I need an MRI? My wife who is an ER doc thinks its a LCL tear. How would I know?

If your pain is not decrease than it is better that you get your MRI. Chances are there you may have torn ACL or MCL. Also some time there are meniscus tear or bone bruise.
Till you get your MRI done, wear a long knee brace to protect your knee from further injury. apply ice and bandage. You can post your mri report on this forum.
take care
