ive got the implant in but have been spotting and bleeding after sex a couple ov times, ive been the doctors today and the say ive got swollen cervix and high hormone level and i have to go back in 8 weeks, i took a pregnancy test the other day just incase and it came back negative, could the test be wrong ?? if so what could be wrong with me ?
Implants are known to cause irregular spotting. Implants are slow release Progesterone gadgets and depending upon their levels in the blood, they cause breaking of the uterine lining (endometrium) which is presented as spotting and some amount of bleeding. This need not be necessarily after sex; it may happen any time.
If you are specifically having bleeding after sex and if your cervix is not healthy, it is most likely that the bleeding after the sex could be coming from the cervix due to disturbance. I would advise you to undergo thorough investigations on cervix. Initially Pap smear will give some guidance and then if needed, a piece of cervix may be taken (biopsy) for histopathology.
Though chronic cervical infection with bad cervical erosion also may cause such bleeding, cancer of the cervix has to be ruled out. You have not mentioned your age. This risk of cervical cancer is more in elderly patients.
Please follow up with the Gynaecologist for thorough investigations.
