Is Sore And Slightly Swollen Tongue Suggestive Of Allergy?

my tongue is very sore and slighty swollen and has been for a couple of days, like a drank something very hot and burned it. on Saturday it was swollen underneath my tongue, but that has gone down. I had taken generic version on Clariton-d. could it be a reaction to the medicine or an allergy?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Soreness and swelling of tongue is commonly seen in case of Allergies and in case if you are taking any medication it can be a side effect of it..
It can also be due to allergic reaction to any food..
Claritin D is an anti-allergic medicine and it will help in reducing swelling and soreness of tongue..
For soreness you can also gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
Do cool water rinses and suck ice pops..
Avoid spicy food..
If the symptoms still does not improve consult an Allergist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like allergic testing can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
Care should be taken as if swelling becomes in excess it can cause choking and breathing difficulty..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
