Is Smelly And Dark Red Menstruation Normal After A Sucessful Delivery?

I m 20 years old, 42 kilos in weight, and 5 2 in height. I ve given birth last saturday, and it s tuesday now. I m bleeding a dark red, mucous-like thing and it smells bad, like a rotten or old blood kind of smell. No clots since I delivered the baby in the sac, whole and everything.. I had a vaginal delivery and my bleeding isn t that heavy, it s just like the normal period. Only thing is it smells. Before I gave birth, a catheter was inserted in me. My main concern is that why does the discharge smell weird? Do I have an infection? What should I take to make it better? Thanks.

Hi, I have gone through your question. The dark and odorous red discharge after delivery is known as lochia tubes and it is common after delivery. It is the shedding of the remains of the afterbirth in the uterus.
It is completely normal til you are not having any associated abdominal pain or fever.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
