Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My question is regarding shingles/chickenpox and times of being contagious. 1st my mother in law was diagnosed with shingles, three weeks later my niece broke out with chickenpox who lives with my mother in law. My 8 week old daughter whom I breast feed was watched in the same home yesterday for 8 hours. My niece broke out later that night. I am concerned for my daughter. Is it just a waiting game now?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Shingles is contagious. Those who had chicken pox or vaccinated it is not contagious. If some one who didn't had chicken pox or vaccinated is there then they should get vaccinated. Other wise they should be away from the patient till it get cured. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
