Is Severe Sore Throat An Symptom Of Cancer?

I have had a moderate to severe sore throat for 3 weeks on ONE side only. It is located on the right side part way down my neck (larynx region). It hurts 24 hours per day. I have been taking 600-800mg of ibuprofen (which doesn't always help). I'm a 37 yr old female who smoked throughout my twenties. When I lay down on the side that hurts it feels better as opposed to the other side which bothers me. I have not had any other symptoms..no fever, no cough, no runny nose. Can you help tell me if this describes and signs of cancer?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
Severe Sore throat on one side can be due to many conditions. Most common is Severe infection in one tonsil or Peri Tonsillar abscess. Other reasons are epiglottitis, posterior nasal haemorrhage, infection of a lower third molar (pericornitis). Cancer possibility is less.
In cases of moderate to severe sore throat due to peri tosillar abscess, Antibiotic intake is mostly required to treat the infection.

You should Consult a ENT specialist for diagnosis & prescribtion of required antibiotics.

Hope this information helps
