Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My dad has been having severe pains in his sides. It is not kidney stones or kidneys. Apparently, there are some lymph nodes around his heart. The E/R people are thinking the pains could be coming from those. We are hoping to hear back maybe tomorrow from another doctor. I wanted to look it up on the internet and I come across this site. Do you this the above is a possibility? Your opinion.....
Pain is generally from something connected to the area that hurts. If it is flank pain then something in the flank not the foot not the heart would be where to look. The kidney is deep in the flank and is connected to urine flow. Something hurting on the surface is not as likely to be the kidney and more likely to be the skin/muscles or even the nerves that run to the area. The kidney is connected to the flow of urine and mosty there will be a change in the urine if there is a kidney problem. Stones/infection/blockages cause changes in the urine. If it is both sides then it would have to be both kidneys it is less likely to be nerves because it would have to hit two nerves evenly. If it is upper flank, the bottomof the lung is there. If breathing is affected or painful then this is quite often a cause of the pain.
