Is Safe To Have Intercourse During Menstrual Cycle?

I am ms pooja. My age is 23 yrs. My ht is 5.1 and my weight is 48 kgs. I am type 1 diabetic. My HBA1c is 7. I am having physical relation with my boyfriend since 5 yrs. I wanted to know whether it is safe to have intercourse during menstrual cycle? Are there chances of cervical cancer even after using protection?

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

1) Theoretically, sexual intercourse is almost SAFE to avoid pregnancy (as those days are NON-FERTILE) but it is quite unhygienic way to do this and chance of infection is quite there.

2) Doing protected sex with condom reducess the risk of STD or sexually transmitted diseases including HPV infection. Risk will be low for cervical cancer but need to do Pap Smear test (as screening) at regular interval.
