Is Regional Anesthesia Preferred Over General For Knee Replacement?

I need a knee replacement. I see a lot about regional anesthesia. I think I would rather have general because I don t want to know what s happening and I don t want to hear drilling and sawing and feel pulling or manipulation. Will the doctor make me have regional if I prefer general?

Dear welcome to hcm and thanks for choosing us.

I share your concerns about having to go through knee replacement and choice of anaesthesia. In my opinion regional anaesthesia is better than general. Regional anaesthesia requires lesser dosage of anaesthetic agents , so you will have less adverse effects. Recovery from regional anaesthesia is faster and less troubling.

However if you don't want to listen what doctors speak or the sounds of surgical procedures, you can always request your anaesthetist for general anaesthesia. Your doctor will certainly agree to it.

I hope my reply will benefit you. Please write to us for more queries. I wish you good luck and health. Kindly provide a feedback on this reply. Thanks
