Is Rapid Breathing In A Child Normal While Having Cold?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...

My 2/12 year old looks absolutely fine but has had a mild runny nose and very slight cough today. She is in bed for the night and appears to be breathing fine but more rapidly than usual. Is this common with a cold?

Hi...yes, this is common in viral cold, especially when there is blocked nose. But if her respiratory rate is more than 40/minute and if there are chest retractions, she might be developing wheeze or a lower respiratory infection. If this is the case, please get her checked by a physician.
