my 6 year old child has been given post exposure treatment of rabipur vaccine just two months before. now when he was going onthe street, with his flute in hand a dog s open mouth touched the flute which he used after 2 minutes. do he need to administer the vaccine again?
Hi, Thanks for asking query on health care magic. Rabies virus is transmitted through dog's saliva and if this comes in contact with the wound the person develops rabies. As the boy used flute contaminated with saliva he can be infected if he has any abrasions over the buccal mucosa. Any way once he has taken post exposure vaccine he need not take vaccine till 6 months after completion of the vaccine. Hope this answer will serve your purpose. Please feel free to ask any more queries if required. Take care Dr.M.V.Subrahmanyam MD; DCH. Associate professor of pediatrics, MIMS.
