My son was been bitten by a stray cat....he alredy received 1dose of rabipur antirabies injection...my question is....I m sharing utensils with my son.....I even eat his left over food and drink d soda that he didn t finish.....is there any possibilities that the rabies will be transferred to me? Should I get antirabies injection too? Thank you
Hi & Welcome to HCM. I appreciate your concern for the possibility of transmission of rabies from your son who is recently bitten by a cat.
First of all I would to say here that rabies is not a contagious disease. Rabies is mostly transmitted to humans, and between animals, through the saliva of infected animals. Transmission is generally through a bite from any infected animal like dog, cat, etc.
Transmission between humans is extremely rare, although it can happen only through organ transplants, or through bites but not through sharing the same utensils or drinking from the same bottle.
So, nothing to worry about that let your son to complete the remaining doses of anti rabies vaccines as per the schedule given by his treating doctor.
Good wishes.
